A very recent case report concerning the use of MLS® Laser Therapy supporting a patient suffering from severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19A 57-Year-Old African American Man with Severe COVID-19 Pneumonia Who Responded to Supportive Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT): First Use of PBMT in COVID-19 – reported a significant improvement in some basic parameters (breathing indexes, radiological results, oxygen requirement) for several days and without the need for a breathing ventilator.

Although future controlled clinical studies are required in order to assess the effect of laser therapy on the clinical results of patients with a similar pathology, the reported case is significant, particularly when looking at the specifics of the monitored parameters.

The results

Treated every day for 4 days with MLS®, the patient in fact recorded an increased saturation from 93–94% to 97–100%, a decreased oxygen requirement (the flow rate went from 2–4 L/min to 1 L/min) and a reduction of other respiratory indexes (Brescia-COVID and SMART-COP) from 4 to 0. Furthermore, the C-reactive protein normalised from 15.1 to 1.23 and the CAP tool score (a questionnaire which evaluates respiratory symptoms and well-being) showed a substantial improvement.
