Hilterapia® inhibits the growth of drug-resistant bacteria

20 February 2020 - Research

Is it possible to inhibit the growth of two of the main bacteria responsible for the most commonly contracted infections in hospitals, which are difficult to control as they are resistant to many antibiotics?

According to study “Immediate effect of pulsed high-intensity neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd: YAG) laser on staphylococcus aureus and pseudomonas aeruginosa growth: an experimental study”, the answer is yes.

The research provided for the application of Hilterapia® with varying energy doses to 4 test samples of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) – the scientific names of the bacteria – in order to verify whether laser therapy could act on their proliferation.

The result was reassuring: 24 hours after administration, a significant reduction in the colony count of both bacteria was observed, regardless of the therapy doses, but with most effect given by doses at higher energy. These results are functional to the end purpose of the authors of the research: to use ASA’s therapy in order to treat wounds which are often infected.
